We don't recommend it. Down is sensitive to alkali and high heat; the wrong wash makes it clump, and it must be dried thoroughly. Silk and wool are protein fibers that get damaged, shrink or stiffen with strong alkali and heat. We sort items at pickup and handle them by material (dry cleaning, wet cleaning or gentle wash), and only the same type of material goes in the same load.

We recommend it. Used bedding holds sweat and body oils in its fibers, which slowly oxidize in storage, so next year you'll find yellow spots and a musty smell. Heavy quilts and down are hard to dry completely at home, and compressing them before they're fully dry makes down clump.
