Item description

For Barbour re-waxing, we hand-apply the brand's own dedicated wax.

A Classic Worth Keeping: Professional Restoration and Care for Waxed Jackets

A waxed jacket is more than protection from wind and rain. It's a crafted piece that develops its own aged character over time. But the wax layer wears away with friction and dry conditions, so the fabric loses its water resistance, turns whitish and can even crack. Ordinary dry cleaning or washing can dissolve and degrade the wax, causing damage that can't be undone.

Why Your Waxed Jacket Needs Dedicated Care

  • Knowing which solvents to avoid: Drawing on our knowledge of cleaning chemistry, we never use dry-cleaning solvent on waxed jackets. We use only gentle cold-water cleaning, so the fiber structure of the cotton base fabric isn't disturbed.
  • Careful re-waxing: This isn't just spreading wax on. It takes precise temperature control and working the wax in by hand, so the high-quality dedicated wax soaks evenly into the gaps between the fibers.

EN Laundry's Five-Step Waxed Jacket Care

  1. Dust removal and surface cleaning: Using a dedicated soft brush and low-pressure cold water, we remove the dirt and dust hidden in the weave, so re-waxing doesn't seal grime into the fabric.
  2. Hand re-waxing: The dedicated wax is heated until liquid and applied evenly by hand over the whole jacket. This takes close attention, so seams, creases and pocket edges are all fully covered.
  3. Even penetration with controlled warm air: Temperature-controlled equipment draws the wax deep into the cotton fibers and removes excess surface greasiness, bringing back a full color and natural sheen.
  4. Low-temperature curing: After waxing, the jacket rests in a constant-temperature space to "cure", so the wax layer sets fully and its wind and water resistance return.
  5. Optional anti-mildew, antibacterial treatment: In Taiwan's humid climate, a waxed jacket's waterproof outer fabric keeps moisture in the lining from escaping, so the lining can easily get damp. You can add an anti-mildew, antibacterial treatment to reduce odors.

FAQ

Q: What is a waxed jacket? What are the pros and cons?

A waxed jacket is cotton fabric coated with wax. The wax layer blocks wind and repels water, and with wear the jacket develops its own patina. The downside is that the wax gradually wears away with friction and dry conditions: the fabric turns whitish, stops repelling water and, in severe cases, cracks. Ordinary dry cleaning or washing may also dissolve and degrade the wax.

Q: How often does it need re-waxing? How can I tell?

Look at the surface. If the fabric turns whitish, the wax fades along the creases, or water no longer beads off, the wax is wearing away and you may want to have it re-waxed. If you're not sure, send us photos on LINE.

Q: How do I choose between cleaning, re-waxing and anti-mildew treatment?

For surface dirt only, choose hand cold-water cleaning. If the wax has worn away, we clean the jacket and then re-wax it. Taiwan is humid, and because a waxed jacket's outer layer is waterproof, moisture in the lining doesn't escape easily. If the jacket usually sits in a closet or has an odor, you can add the anti-mildew, antibacterial treatment.

Q: How much can you do for a moldy waxed jacket?

It depends on where the mold is and how long it has been there. Please send photos on LINE first. We'll take a look, explain how much we can do and how, and only start once you agree.

Q: Can I send it from outside Taoyuan? How long does it take?

We offer door-to-door pickup & delivery across all of Taoyuan City and Linkou District, New Taipei City. From other areas, you can ship it to us through a 7-Eleven store. After re-waxing, the jacket needs time to cure, so it takes longer than regular garments. We'll tell you the estimated completion time at pickup.

Thank you for trusting us. To make sure your clothes and valuables get proper care and to protect both sides, please read the following notes carefully before sending items for cleaning:

1. Please check before sending items (basis of our disclaimer)

Empty all pockets:Please check pockets carefully before handing over items. We are not responsible for storing or compensating for cash, IDs, jewelry, earphones, receipts or other valuables left behind. If we find anything, we will keep it safe and return it, but please check to avoid unnecessary disputes.

Tell us about existing flaws:If a garment already has tears, loose seams, dye stains, fading, loose buttons, heavy yellowing or moth holes, please tell the counter staff when you drop it off, or let us know on LINE.

Valuable or high-end items (e.g. Chanel/Hermès bags, high-end leather, tailored suits): we recommend our premium care service (Luxury Item Care). Please check the item's current condition together with our staff in store or discuss it online (e.g. leather wear, oxidized hardware), and have it noted on the cleaning ticket.

2. Cleaning and stain removal results (reasonable expectations)

About difficult stains:For sweat, blood, ink, juice, paint, old yellow stains or mildew, we do our best with professional enzymes and stain removers on the affected area. If a stain is very old, or the fibers have already deteriorated or taken on the color, we cannot promise it will come out completely.

Special materials:

  • Unstable or non-colorfast dyes: if a garment's dye is not colorfast, it may fade slightly after cleaning.
  • Coatings / PU faux leather / waterproof seam tape: these materials have a limited lifespan (usually 2–3 years) and may peel or lose seam tape during cleaning due to hydrolysis and aging. If peeling has already started, it will usually get worse after cleaning, so please keep this in mind.

3. Storage of uncollected items

Collect on time:When your items are ready, we will send you a text message. Please collect them with your claim ticket within 30 days of the notice, or contact us to arrange delivery.

Late storage fee:From day 31, a storage fee of NT$10–20 per item per day applies to uncollected items (up to 3 months).

Abandonment of ownership:Items not collected more than 6 months after the notice date are considered abandoned by the customer. We may recycle, donate or otherwise dispose of them to free up storage space, and the customer may not object or claim compensation.

4. Checking items at pickup and handling disputes

Check on the spot:When collecting, please check on the spot that the number of items and accessories (e.g. belts, fur collars, liners) are complete, and check the cleaning quality.

Re-cleaning window:If you find an item not fully clean or poorly pressed, bring it back to the shop with your receipt within 3 days of pickup (with our laundry tag still attached and unworn), and we will redo it free of charge.

5. Compensation for loss or damage

We carry liability insurance. If a garment is seriously damaged, deformed or lost due to improper cleaning on our part, compensation follows the Ministry of Economic Affairs' "Mandatory and Prohibited Provisions for Standard Laundry Service Contracts":

  • Regular garments: compensation is a multiple of the item's cleaning price (usually capped at 5 to 20 times, depending on depreciation).
  • Valuable items without a declared value: if the value was not declared in advance and the item did not go through our premium care process, total compensation is capped (e.g. no more than NT$5,000–10,000).

Notes on Special Services

1. Down comforters / large bedding
Please check the bedding's care label when you buy it. Some natural silk and pure wool comforters are dry clean only or must not be washed. We never vacuum-compress animal fibers, to avoid physical damage to fibers and feather quills (down itself can be compressed).

2. Pet items
For hygiene, please remove loose hair and waste from pet clothing and beds before sending them in. We wash pet items separately using pet-specific disinfectant and dedicated machines, so you can send them with peace of mind.
