STARLUX Airlines Silk Scarf: Yellow Stain Treatment

We happened to have a case like this recently. The photos show a silk scarf that had already been dry cleaned at another shop.

The marks in the middle are usually sweat or cosmetics such as foundation. The whole base color also looked a shade darker and a little yellow.

A scarf worn around the neck can also easily pick up coffee, tea, juice or red wine, all drinks that contain pigment. Once an item has been dry cleaned, treating these stains is not as simple as treating them fresh, so some faint marks may still remain after our cleaning.

Silk scarves also tend to have poor colorfastness, which makes them trickier to treat than other materials. Scarves like this snag easily, too.

We usually clean them by hand with a gentle swishing motion to keep mechanical wear to a minimum.

The photos show the scarf before cleaning, after cleaning, and a snag that was already there before cleaning. Cleaning did not damage the scarf: the snag stayed the same length and in the same place.

The darkest area in the middle could only be restored about 80%, and a little yellow remains.
